Q. What is Serialise?
A. Serialise is a webspace and publishing platform for established and aspiring authors to sell or share their writing. We encourage writers to serialise their writing - present it instalment by instalment. This has the effect of 'hooking' readers in, and it also allows the writer to make changes to their writing in response to feedback.
Q. What kind of writing does Serialise feature?
A. We welcome writing of any kind - poems, novels, novellas, short stories, vignettes, flash fiction, non-fiction, and so on.
Q. Can anyone publish their writing on Serialise?
A. Yes, there is no official process. You can submit your writing here. The most popular writing, as determined by a metric which accounts for "likes" and reader numbers, will be featured in the Serialise top 5, accessible on the homepage.
Q. Can writers charge for access?
A. Yes, we believe writers should have the right to a reward for their creativity. A writer can share their work for free, but there is also the option to impose a paywall. Readers who wish to read writing which is behind a paywall will be prompted to pay what charge the writer has imposed. The reader will automatically receive a passcode which enables them to access the writing.
Q. How much money would the writer get from a paywall charge?
A. The default split would be 60 percent of all paywall revenue to the author, with Serialise retaining the residual.
Q. Does Serialise promote serials?
A. Yes. Unless the writers request that we don't, we promote serial entries through our Twitter (@serialiser) and Facebook accounts.
