Megan's Miracle - by Sidonia Henry - Part I

Life out on the farm was home for Megan, as every month of the year was beautiful, even during the winter months there was always something exciting to do. It was good to know that her Grandpa and Grandma Sims would always be there to share Sunnydale with her and of course their was her best friend, Lee-Anne Millar who lived on one of the neighbouring farms.
Whenever the Millar's visited, and that was quite often, they had such wonderful times together. The only person she loved, that was not living at Sunnydale, was her Mom.

Megan's Mom lived in the city and visited every second weekend. Its not that her Mother did not love farm life, but she maintains that Sunnydale held too many painful memories for her. She could'nt fully understand all that as the only memories she had were those of her Dad, and they were wonderful memories which she did not want to forget.
Her tenth birthday will always be a memorable one, that was when her Dad gave her Silver , her pony, as a birthday gift.. Tears filled her eyes whenever she thought of her Dad, he was so kind and patient even whilst teaching her to ride Silver.
Megan had always felt so safe and secure with her Dad, he looked so tall and strong, in fact thats how she felt about her Grandpa Sims now. Megans's two heroes had such wonderful yet similar qualities, Grandpa Sims would often laugh and say that they were Father and Son not in-laws. Everybody often marvelled at how well they managed the farm together. Grandpa Sims also maintained that her Dad should have been Jason Sims and not Jason Perkins.

The only memory that Megan wanted to blot out of her mind was one night last winter, thats when tragedy struck Sunnydale. It was a terribly stormy night and Megan will never forget the look of concern on her Mom's face when her Dad said he was going out on horseback to check the farm workers bungalows. Megan would never forget her Dad's reassuring words to her Mom, Ängela my love, don't worry all will be well”
Little did Megan and her family realise that those would be the last words they would hear their love one utter to them. As her Dad rode down the lane near the farm workers bungalows, lightening struct a tree, it fell across the path of the horse, who bolted throwing it's rider into the air. He was still alive when they found him, but died two days later in hospital.

Yes Megan knew it would take a miracle to change her Mom's mind about living on the farm again.
There were days when Megan felt very lonely and today was one of those days her mother had decided that she should come and live with her in the City. Megan loved her Mom dearly but the thought of leaving Sunnydale was simply unbearable. She tried to bury her head into her pillow to drown out her Grandfather and her Mother's voices as they argued about her leaving the farm. Megan then heard her Grandfather loudly say to her Mother “Ängela please listen to reason, the child is happy here with us “. Her mother then retorted “No! Dad I need her and she needs me” In the background Megan could hear her Grandmother trying to calm them down.
At this stage Megan was so confused , she had such mixed feelings, she wanted to be with her Mom but at the same time she also wanted to be with her Grandparents at Sunnydale. Within her heart she prayed “please God perform a miracle for me”.
For a while she just heard muffled voices, it seemed as if they reached some kind of agreement. Sometime later she heard her mother say “well Dad I'll go and explain the situation to Megan”.
The arrangement they agreed upon would be that Megan would move to the City with her Mom and visit her Grandparents every second weekend and during the school holidays.
