Prologue: The unknown disaster


‘Oh, Latona, did you heard that? Someone is coming…’, said April.

‘Of course I heard it.’ Latona tossed a bag stuffed with weapons to April. The weapons included shiny blade, dry ice, distance bomb, etc. She seemed
confident about this fight.

‘Latona, you shouldn’t underestimate their strength.’ said April, anxiously. At the same time, April was so stressed and frustrated about what would happen next. She held the bag tightly, took a deep breath, and sighed.

Latona and April are my friends I met last year. Each of them possesses an ‘absolute power’ like me. We are not different from the others here, because all of us possess supernatural powers in this world. When we are born, our identity reports mentioned that we are super-humans. I think that the government is stupid to do this on our reports, as we all possess powers here, so no further identification is needed.

However, something happened one year ago, and it changed my mind. At that time, all of the adults started looking so ill and weak, that it seemed like they couldn't even move. I started to worry about my parents, but they had always refused to tell me the reason.

I told my classmate about it. To my surprise, all of them had the same case. We were all curious and worried about what had been concealed. Yet, before our ‘investigation team’ started to seek the truth, the government forbids anyone under 15 to go outdoors. That’s when I started my boring life at home.

I don’t know if you would call it lucky or unlucky for me to overhear this piece of news: One night, after dinner, my mum and dad had a serious, secret talk. At first, I did not have the intention of listening to what they were talking about, but after overhearing the words ‘death’ and ‘virus’, I couldn’t stop my curiosity from exploding from the bottom of my soul. I started to eavesdrop what they were talking about.

‘Oh, my dear, what if something happens to us, yet our poor lovely daughter can't manage to handle things by herself?’ Mum’s voice trembled, with no hope in her words. I can feel the fear and tension spreading from the room.

‘Don’t worry too much, honey. The government promised that the pills can really help to control our power from going berserk. Everything's gonna be alright.’ Dad replied with a soothing tone in his voice. Despite the comforting message he was trying to give just now, I can tell that even he himself was doubtful about the promise.

‘But what if the pill failed?? I’m afraid…’ I guess mum was shedding tears right at this part. So I didn’t continue to listen.

The first thing I’d done was to contact my friends at school. I called them, but none of them answer. Luckily, one of them finally picked up her phone, and I immediately told her about my big discovery. The response was fragile, but I could guess about what she was talking about: ‘…collapsed.’ I would interpret her reply as, ‘my parents collapsed’. I was really scared for her. I didn't know what to do next.

The truth was, those classmates who did not pick up my phone call just now were all dead. Only a while before I called them. And their parents too. This was not any shocking news anyway, after eavesdropping what my own parents had said. And that night, my parents died from the ‘virus’, too. Maybe that's how all my friends died. And that night, in two years ago, nearly one thousand adults died because of the ‘virus’. The incident was named as ‘the unknown disaster’ by the government.

I had always thought our government was ridiculous and stupid. Now I'm really regretting it.

Now, let me clarify something. The government had always been keeping a secret from us. They’ve started an investigation to remove the super power from our body. After years of testing in animals, they wanted to try testing on the absolute-powered adult. All I know is, the pill was clearly a failure. And for the efficacy of the pill, it’s definitely made up by the cunning government. They lied that the pills can help to control their power in the body without bearing the pain of going berserk. However, the failing pills started to oppose the body of those who obeyed to take them. I feel like...we mean nothing to the heartless government but just some laboratory samples for them to control. What a group of crazily selfish control freaks.

And they killed all the adults.

The innocent.

I couldn’t help myself to take revenge for their lives.
So, two years ago, I’ve made the government my enemy. But things aren’t THAT simple. One year ago, just before I met April and Latona, I finally found out why the government always printed ‘super-human’ on our identity reports. There really ARE people WITHOUT the powers. Well, just because the government had done something, again.

This led to how I met my two battle-mates and besties, Latona and April. After witnessing so many people dying, I decided to stop locking myself up in that boring home. I came out to look at the world.

Everything had changed. Although it's daytime, it's dark outside, like the nighttime. I saw nothing but dead, suffering bodies lying on the ground. What a horrible, tearful, heart wrenching scene! I’d never expect that…

After I've calmed myself down, a thought came up suddenly: Maybe the medicine could infect others. That's why only adults were used as samples. Despite the possibility of getting contaminated, I would fight the government for what they’ve done and return the justice for as long as I live!

O rest in peace, my people.

And the sky has been dark for two years. No sun, no moon, no stars. No daytime, no nighttime.

I wish to see the break of dawn again, at least once before I die. The power of nature is always beautiful, like the gentle nurturers of the children. Ah, the adults. And my parents too. Everything had been arranged by our Creator so perfectly in place. Until the disaster came...

How cruel. The sky is a nostalgic, melancholic screen hanging from above, playing back the memories of light, and little delights.

And for the normal humans … We are now fighting them. They are threatening the lives of us superhumans and trying to kill us. Yet, the government has done nothing to protect us. That being said, we mean nothing to the heartless government but just some laboratory samples for them to control.

Well, I'm just guessing. I am not sure if they are the truth or not. So, our inevitable mission, is to discover the truth behind the government’s mindless actions and why the normal human are fighting us.
